8 in Beijing, Wang Hao (online name “Yituhao”) organized a special event he called a “half funeral” to mark the 15,000th day of his life, which he views as the midpoint of an average human lifespan. Using a stand-up comedy style, he reviewed the successes, failures, and lessons of his first half of life, hoping to officially “lay the past to rest” and welcome a new beginning. More than 50 friends and family members attended.

The most widely discussed part was the eulogy delivered by his 11.75-year-old daughter. Having never been to a funeral before, she struggled to write it, and even AI tools couldn’t help because it was a eulogy for a living person. After guidance and several drafts, she presented a nearly five-minute speech at the event, expressing her love and hope that “Dad will never die and can stay with me forever.” Many netizens praised this moment as a valuable form of “death education” for children.

Wang Hao said he has always valued ritual, having celebrated milestones like buying a house, buying a car, and getting married in creative ways. After going through personal setbacks and a serious car accident this year, he wanted a symbolic ceremony to release the past and restart life. The three-hour “half funeral,” filled with both laughter and tears, became a farewell to his first 15,000 days and a blessing for the future.
