On October 27, 2025, Hefei Normal University Affiliated Primary School officially launched “Xiao An,” the world’s first full-size bionic robot to enter the classroom teaching scene, marking an important step in the application of artificial intelligence in education from the laboratory to the classroom.

Developed by a local Hefei company, “Xiao An” stands 1.4 meters tall and possesses 34 degrees of freedom, an expression generation system, and a personality customization engine. It can interact emotionally with students and has the teaching abilities of a professional science teacher. In a science class themed “Designing Our Musical Instruments,” “Xiao An” serves as a teaching assistant, co-teaching with the teacher and guiding students to explore sound knowledge and providing intelligent evaluation through voice, video, and visual recognition systems.

The developer, Wuhu Technology, stated that the robot project was initiated in April of this year and has now completed its development and entered the testing phase. The collaboration adopts a “joint R&D + revenue sharing” model to alleviate the financial burden on startups. The head of the International Advanced Technology Application Promotion Center (Hefei) pointed out that this project is the first truly integrated “robot teacher” application in China into the curriculum system.

In the future, “Xiao An” will be piloted at Hefei Normal University Affiliated Primary School and Hefei High-tech Innovation Experimental Primary School. Principal Wang Wei revealed that the plan is to promote the project in stages: initially as a teaching assistant to enliven the classroom atmosphere; in the middle stage, to independently undertake some teaching tasks; and finally to build an intelligent teaching system covering pre-class, in-class, and post-class activities to help teachers reduce their workload and improve teaching quality.
